Nurturing future talent in the industry

Mowi Consumer Products UK bids farewell to Evie Burns who has completed a nine-week placement at Rosyth under the supervision of OPEX Manager Daniel Sheerin.

Evie is studying Food Consumer Science Studies at Abertay University and really made the most of her time at CPUK.

Speaking about the placement, Daniel said: “I was delighted to work with Evie. It has been an ambition of mine to mentor a student ever since I began as OPEX Manager. Eleven years ago, I was in the same position as Evie, following the same course and doing an industry placement. I got so much out of mine that I wanted to pay it forward to the University and give a student a foothold in the industry.”

Evie added: “It was great to get an insight into the real workings of a food factory and experience first-hand the contribution of each department to the final products that leave for supermarkets. I see a future for myself in the industry – this placement has definitely confirmed that.”

Speaking about the salmon industry, Evie continued: “I knew nothing about salmon. I am genuinely surprised at the scale of the industry and how much work goes in by so many people to create a salmon meal.”

Evie plans to move into New Product Development (NPD) and judging by what she created at CPUK she has a bright future!

Mowi CPUK hopes to host more student placements and develop a long-term relationship with the University of Abertay. Daniel added: “It has been a highlight to see a bright young person embrace the world of food manufacturing and develop confidence in her studies, her learning and communication in the professional world. It is also refreshing having a different voice in the office.”
