Shinty in the spotlight
November saw the presentation of the Mowi National Shinty Awards. Held at the Highland Cinema in Fort William, it marked three years since the last ceremony due to Covid.
The Mowi National Shinty Awards recognise the extraordinary efforts and incredible endeavour required to deliver shinty in 2022 and are based around the shared values of Mowi and the Camanachd Association which include respect, safety, community, passion, change, improvement, share, trust and responsibility.
Jayne MacKay, Community Engagement Officer at Mowi Scotland, and Dougie Hunter, Technical Director and Managing Director Ocean Matters, attended the ceremony to present the awards.
Speaking about the event, Dougie said: “What a great night! Although we had continued the Mowi National Shinty Awards online during the pandemic, it was amazing to see so many players, clubs and coaches brought together to mark a great year for the game. Shinty makes such a difference to communities in the Highlands and Islands and the awards really celebrate that. Congratulations to all the winners!”
Derek Keir, Chief Executive Officer of the Camanachd Association, added: “A big thank you to Mowi for its continued support for shinty. The Mowi National Shinty Awards are a highlight in the calendar and this year was extra special as it was the first in person ceremony since 2019. Here’s to another great year in 2023!”
