Salmon Wagon has raised over £14k for Scottish communities with Mowi inviting applications for 2024

As we say goodbye to summer for another year, communities and local charities are looking back on the many successful events and festivals they held – with 12 local causes across Scotland having particular reason to celebrate. Across the country in 2023, the fundraising Mowi ‘Salmon Wagon’ served up delicious barbequed salmon dishes at events in Achiltibuie, Appin, Benbecula, Isle of Harris, Isle of Skye, Kilchoan, Kyle of Lochalsh, Newtonmore, North Uist and Rosyth. Arriving at events fully stocked and staffed by Mowi, 100% of proceeds from the sale of food benefitted local causes.

In total, since its launch three years ago, the eye-catching food truck has raised £14,258 for local causes, serving up over 3,000 salmon dishes at 26 events.

Speaking about what is the Salmon Wagon’s second full summer helping community groups across the country, Jayne MacKay, Community Engagement Officer at Mowi Scotland, said:

“In its second summer on the road, we are delighted that the Salmon Wagon has raised a significant amount for many worthy causes. Having attended the events, which ranged from village galas and agricultural shows, to Highland games and festivals, we are lucky enough to have met first-hand the charities and communities that will benefit from the funds raised.

“It was a privilege to spend time at these important social occasions.”

Supporting the local groups that host Mowi is an important element of its commitment to helping local communities to thrive.

Jayne continues: “We can’t wait to learn more about some of the fantastic events scheduled for next summer as we seek applications for 2024 and make the difficult decision of which ones to support.”

One of the local causes to benefit from Mowi’s Salmon Wagon in 2023 was the North Uist Agricultural Society. Speaking about the difference the funds raised will make to the Society, Joan Ferguson said:

“North Uist Agricultural Society was delighted to have Jayne and her Mowi Salmon Wagon team at this year’s show. As we celebrate 50 years since our show hall was built we really appreciate the donation from Mowi which will support the society to continue hosting community events throughout the year.”

Applications for 2024 invited

Mowi Scotland is now inviting communities and local organisations that would like the fundraising Salmon Wagon to attend their event in 2024 to apply online. Successful applicants will benefit from the striking food truck arriving at their event fully stocked by Mowi and manned by its talented chefs, with 100% of proceeds from the sale of food benefitting the chosen charities.

An initiative created to raise money for charities and communities across Scotland by serving up delicious salmon fillet burgers and noodle salads, this will be the third summer tour of Scotland by the Salmon Wagon.

The application phase for 2024 is now open and will close on 31st December 2023. Events which have been previously unsuccessful in their applications are welcome to apply again. Mowi’s panel will meet in January with successful applicants announced in February 2024.
