Volunteers honoured at VOSCARS
Mowi was proud to attend and support the 2024 VOSCARS (Volunteer Oscars) as part of Volunteers’ Week, taking place from 3rd to 9th June.
Organised by Voluntary Action Lochaber, the VOSCARS celebrate the region’s community volunteers and the organisations that support them. This year, Mowi sponsored the Voluntary Organisation of the Year award which was won by Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club.
Congratulations to the club, pictured above being presented with the award by Mowi’s Jayne MacKay.
It is thanks to volunteers such as those in Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club that our communities, particularly rural ones, continue to thrive. At Mowi, we are proud that many of our employees volunteer within their communities. From RNLI, Coastguard, Fire Service, Mountain Rescue, members of community councils, board members, coaching local sports teams, the list goes on!
Here are just a few of them!
Debra Brennan has been a volunteer with Oban Mountain Rescue for eight years.
Joanna Borciuch is a trained volunteer mentor with charity Lochaber Hope, specialising in non-English speaker/Eastern Europe support.
Lachie Mor volunteers with Nevis Radio. Lachie has been involved since it was Ski FM, then Holiday FM before becoming Nevis Radio in 1992. He’s been part of various shows on a voluntary basis and now hosts his own show, The HOOLIE, broadcasting to Lochaber and beyond.
John Cameron is Mowi’s Lochailort Assistant Manager, as well as being a seasoned member of the RNLI life boat crew based out of Mallaig.
Declan Maclellan, who is a deck hand on the Mowi Skye vessel in the Western Isles, also volunteers with the Scottish Fire Service.
Shaun MacLean has been a member of Lochaber Mountain Rescue for an incredible 41 years! He says he really appreciates Mowi enabling him to go on call-outs when possible.
