Mowi Salmon Wagon serves up successful year of fundraising

Ardrishaig Gala

The Mowi Salmon Wagon is a unique initiative from Mowi Scotland – bringing delicious, sustainably farmed Scottish salmon to local festivals and events while raising funds for community causes across the country – and beyond! Since its launch, the Salmon Wagon has become a much-loved feature on the events calendar, combining great food with an even greater purpose – supporting charities, local groups and rural communities.

In total, the Salmon Wagon has attended almost 40 events, served over 5,500 portions of salmon and raised over £22,000 for good causes.

In 2025, the Salmon Wagon’s first stop was at Rosyth Gala on 31st May, where it served up mouthwatering Mowi salmon noodle salads and salmon fillets in brioche buns. Visitors turned out in droves to enjoy a tasty lunch, helping to raise £855 for Rosyth Community Projects – an inspiring charity running a community hub, garden and orchard focused on food, wellbeing and inclusion. Mowi was proud to support Rosyth Gala and to collaborate with a charity so deeply rooted in its local community.

Eyeries Family Festival

In July, the Salmon Wagon ventured beyond Scotland for the very first time, making its debut in Ireland at the Eyeries Family Festival in County Cork. Mowi Ireland, a long-standing supporter of the festival, also hosted popular boat trips to one of its nearby fish farms, giving families a behind-the-scenes look at sustainable aquaculture. The salmon served came from Mowi’s Deenish site in County Kerry – freshly prepared and portioned by Good Fish, which kindly donated its services. With the help of the Mowi Ireland team – Clara McGhee, Dan Miluzzi, Ross Murphy, Colin MacMillan and Peter Elphick – the Salmon Wagon raised an impressive €1,422, all of which was donated back to the festival.

From there, the Salmon Wagon continued its journey across the Hebrides, stopping at a series of island shows and festivals:

  • North Uist Agricultural Show (24th July) – £900 raised for North Uist Agricultural Society.
  • Eilean Dorcha Festival, Benbecula (25th July) – £930 raised for Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group, in support of local farm manager Ruaraidh “Puds” MacQuarrie’s daughter, Sophie.
  • The Lochs Show, Lewis (26th July) – £546 raised for Lochs Agricultural Society.
  • South Harris Agricultural Show (29th July) – £900 donated to the show committee.

The Eilean Dorcha Festival (EDF) marked Mowi’s sixth year of sponsorship, with Mowi staff lending both time and equipment to help set up the site. The Salmon Wagon was a highlight of the event, serving fresh salmon meals to festivalgoers and supporting an important cause in the process.

Proceeds from Salmon Wagon sales at the festival went to Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group on behalf of Uist farm manager Ruaraidh “Puds” MacQuarrie’s daughter, Sophie, who was recently diagnosed with Addison’s Disease. £930 was raised which will go towards the charity’s work to support and understand this rare disease.

Speaking after the festival, Sophie’s dad Ruaraidh (Puds) said: “Thank you to Mowi for everything, it really means a lot to us, and we are very grateful for the donation towards the charity that helped and continues to support Sophie.”

In August, the Salmon Wagon rolled into Ardrishaig Gala for the first time, serving salmon noodle salads and burgers to raise £720 for next year’s event fund. In another first, in September, the Salmon Wagon attended Ben Nevis Race, raising £540 for Lochaber Mountain Rescue.

Finally, the 2025 season was rounded off at the Mowi Shinty Hurling International in Inverness, where the Salmon Wagon raised an incredible £1,000 for charity Mikeysline.
