Mowi Canada West’s managing director has been recognized as top 500 most influential business leaders in British Columbia.
Dr. Morrison was recognized as one of the most influential in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, joined by five other prominent leaders.
Mowi Canada West is British Columbia’s (B.C.) largest salmon aquaculture firm responsible for about half of the annual provincial harvest of farm-raised salmon. The company’s head office is in Campbell River and the company employs 500 people mostly living in rural areas on and around Vancouver Island.
Of the recognition, Dr. Morrison comments: “I am very honoured to have received this recognition, and would like to share this honour with the thousands of hardworking women and men that together grow our province’s number one food export, the many hundreds of suppliers throughout our value chain in B.C., and our First Nation business partners.”
In its inaugural year, the BC500 publication is the result of months of research by Business In Vancouver’s editorial team and advisors to determine British Columbia’s most prominent drivers of the province’s economic success and prosperity.
The BC500 features the 500 most influential business leaders across dozens of sectors who have a notable impact on B.C.’s communities, industries and economy.
On its webpage, BC500 notes Dr. Morrison’s career highlights, which includes the 20-year partnership with the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation. “In October 2019 we signed a renewed 10-year agreement, which will see the continued operation of our farms and the development of a new smoked salmon plant in the community. I’m very proud to be a part of the first-ever benefit agreement between a First Nation and salmon farming company.”
