Towards a Sustainable Ocean Economy
Today sees the publication of Ocean Panel’s new Ocean Action Agenda which will identify how countries around the world can accelerate, scale and finance ocean action.
Launched in 2018, the High Level Panel for Sustainable Ocean Economy (Ocean Panel), is a unique initiative of 14 serving world leaders building momentum towards a sustainable ocean economy, where effective protection, sustainable production and equitable prosperity go hand-in-hand. By enhancing humanity’s relationship with the ocean, bridging ocean health and wealth, working with diverse stakeholders and harnessing the latest knowledge, the Ocean Panel aims to facilitate a better more resilient future for people and planet.
We welcome the Ocean Action Agenda at Mowi and our Chief Sustainability and Technology Officer, Catarina Martins, has contributed to its development by discussing our own goals and how we are committed to realising our vision for a Blue Revolution.
Mowi is part of the Advisory Network of the Ocean Panel which comprises more than 125 private sector, non-governmental organisations and intergovernmental organisations across 35 countries.
Speaking about the Ocean Action Agenda, CEO Ivan Vindheim said: “Our vision as a business is to unlock the potential of the ocean as a source of healthy and sustainable food. Sustainable aquaculture is a sustainable ocean economy which needs to grow as part of the solution to climate change. We are 100% committed to making our vision a reality!”
Ocean Panel is clear that the ocean can provide more abundant and diverse food than it currently does, thereby playing a bigger role in the global food system.
