A protein-packed superfood

Every day, more than 8 million Mowi meals are enjoyed around the world. Our salmon is a high-quality product with a taste and nutritional profile that few others can match.

In recent years, consumers have shown a growing interest in health and well-being. According to Mintel’s 2023 Global Food and Drink Trends research, 57% of individuals now define great value in food as increased nutritional benefits, such as high protein content.

Because of the associated health benefits, health authorities around the world recommend that people consume two or three servings of seafood per week, with at least one serving consisting of oily fish such as salmon. Not only is salmon an everyday superfood that provides necessary vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fatty acids and other nutrients, but it also contains a high level of protein that can’t be found in plant-based or other animal foods.

Protein is a building block in muscles and is essential for the structure, function, and regulation of human tissues and organs. But how much protein is in Mowi salmon, and what are the health benefits?

A single serving of Mowi salmon provides 34% of your necessary daily protein intake while providing much fewer calories than red meat. A 100g portion of Mowi salmon has 139 calories and 23g of protein. Salmon’s ability to supply this degree of nutrition is an excellent reason to choose seafood over other animal proteins.

Other health benefits derive from the protein and amino acid content of salmon. Protein is essential for the structure, function, and regulation of human tissues and organs. Salmon is a ‘complete protein’, which means it includes all nine necessary amino acids in balanced amounts that humans require.

With the potential for the ocean to provide over six times more food than it does today, salmon farming is one of the most efficient ways of using natural resources to produce healthy, protein-rich meals for a growing world population, making Mowi salmon an excellent addition to your weekly menu.
