Global challenges

Why does the world need more food from the ocean?
Increased consumption of blue foods may reduce consumption of land-based meat, thereby reducing diet-related chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, obesity and certain types of cancer.
*BFA, 2021
Health
The world's population is expected to grow from 7.7 billion today to 9.7 billion in 2050.
*BFA, 2021 Global Issues: Population
Global population growth
The percentage of overexploited fisheries has gone up from 33.1 to 34.2%.
*SOFIA, 2020. The state of fisheries and aquaculture in the world.
Exploited resources
