Since our inception in 1964, Mowi has maintained the same distinctive salmon strain – originally sourced from Norway’s Vosso and Åroy Rivers – and we have worked hard to protect and develop our unique breed. This continued breeding for excellence is what distinguishes Mowi from the competition and underpins our leadership in the industry.

We are committed to supplying our farming operations with optimally sustainable and genetically superior salmon every year. Leveraging decades of expertise, sophisticated analysis methods and cutting-edge tools, our breeding and genetics teams meticulously select broodstock that exhibits robust health, resilience, and superior performance.

We need our fish to thrive in all seasons, so we carefully select our salmon to ensure they will thrive in a variety of environments and climates by utilising our breeding expertise. We have a deep understanding of the characteristics of our salmon strains and a unique ability to tailor our breeding and genetics to the biological characteristics of our fish and their farming environments. This maximises the productivity and sustainability of our salmon populations.

For example, in Scotland, our broodstock is specifically selected and bred, ensuring our stock is well-adapted to local conditions and future-proofing product quality. We have also developed our own production practices and infrastructure, enabling us to produce eggs with the best genetic properties in the desired volumes at the optimal time for all our farming units worldwide.
