Mowi is at the forefront of technological advancements in aquaculture, and we are leading the way in sustainable salmon farming and food production.
All innovation activities in Mowi focus on increasing and improving the production of sustainable and healthy seafood. Our vision of Leading the Blue Revolution requires us to be industry leaders in research and development and technical innovation across the entire value chain, moving the industry forward into an even brighter future.
“At Mowi we produce one of the healthiest, safest, and most sustainable foods in the world, something we consider both a privilege and a great responsibility. It gives us a sense of true purpose and it inspires us to continuously look for improvements throughout our value chain; to develop new knowledge, technology and solutions that make our fish thrive and our products superfood.” Dr Catarina Martins, Chief Sustainability and Technology Officer.
Our advances in Smart Farming concepts are transforming how we manage fish health, welfare, and biological challenges, with real-time monitoring of our fish and the environment. Smart Farming provides deeper insights into fish behaviour, health status, and well-being at our freshwater and sea sites. These technologies allow us to proactively identify and mitigate biological risks while informing us how best to care for our fish.
Smart Farming consists of three main elements that mutually reinforce each other to push our farming operations into the digital age:
- Remote feeding operations help optimise feeding, improve biological performance, and meet each fish’s needs.
- Advanced imaging technology, sensors, and AI help us to understand what is happening below the water’s surface so that we can best care for our fish through real-time biomass monitoring, tracking of fish welfare, and automatic lice counting. This also enables treatment intervention at the optimal time.
- MOWInsight, our cutting-edge business intelligence platform, delivers real-time data from both internal and external sources. This data ensures that decisions are made promptly and based on current insights should our fish need extra care.
Digitalisation is transforming our value chain and how we care for our salmon. Significant progress has been made in Smart Farming, and we have set the ambitious target of completing the roll-out of these revolutionary technologies in Norway throughout 2025.
Smart Farming is an integral part of our future, and we’re incredibly proud of our Research and Development teams who are helping us lead the Blue Revolution.
